Synopsis:
July 11th 2006 3:45 am, after being airborne for over 36 hours I finally landed in Mumbai (PDX-LA-Frankfurt-Mumbai). It was a short and unscheduled visit to be with my family and mourn the untimely death of my cousin in child birth. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Parul. Parul is very healthy now and very talkative!
By the time we reached home it was 8 am, I fell asleep after eating something and slept through most of the day until loud noise of TV news woke me up at about 6:45 pm. The Local Trains of Mumbai had just witnesssed 7 blasts in a matter of 11 minutes. 209 people lost their lives while over 700 were injured.
Having been in Mumbai the day when these blasts happened, I was very nervous to watch Mumbai Meri Jaan, a movie based on the aforesaid incident.
However I must admit, even after looking at the IMDB rating of 8.4 out of 10, I did not expect the movie to be as good as it is.
What I really liked about the movie was how it showed different socio-economic classes that co-exist in Mumbai. There are 1 or 2 gory scenes when the blasts are shown and has a serious first half, but overall it has a positive ending, one with hope of change.
I feel like one has to walk a fine line to handle such a topic, not be too preachy and not be too commercial either, credit must be given to the director who did a great job and very well supported by all the actors!
Here is a video trailer (the movie I will screen will have English subtitles)
